Five Steps of the Design Thinking Process

  • Empathy Formation

The first step in Design Thinking is to develop empathy for your client. Put yourself in their shoes for a while to gain a deeper comprehension of the issue you must resolve. In order to gain a thorough understanding of the issue, you must literally live with it. Talking to experts and observing and engaging with them to learn more about the issue, their motivations, ways of thinking, and experiences is another method. At this point in the process, the designers are attempting to find the best solution to the issues identified during the project’s initial stages, which necessitates a great deal of experimentation. The prototypes are used to test these solutions, which are then evaluated and approved, improved, or rejected. Based on customer feedback and experience, rejections are made. This stage is crucial for designers because it gives them insight into the limitations of the product and how customers will feel, act, and think when they handle it.

  • Rigorous Testing

During the fifth and final stage of the design process, the team uses the solution chosen during the prototype stage to rigorously test the final product. Because testing is performed numerous times, this process may be monotonous and repetitive. After that, the test results are used to reevaluate issues and update consumer perceptions of the product and the conditions under which it is used. At this stage, the product is still being changed and improved to eliminate all issues and gain a better understanding of customers and the product.
